PIPAC (Pressurized Aerosol Chemotherapy)

PIPAC (Pressurized Aerosol Chemotherapy)

chemotherapy

PIPAC is one of the newly developed promising treatment methods for tumors of the ovary, colon, stomach, pancreas and primary peritoneum (mesothelioma etc.) spread to the peritoneum. PIPAC; Pressurized Intraperitoneal Aerosol Chemotherapy, can be applied when HIPEC; where hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy and intravenous systemic chemotherapy, cannot be given. The advantage is that the procedure is performed with a closed surgery method (Laparoscopic Surgery) and has few side effects (pain and drug toxicity). A dose of 1/10 of the chemotherapeutic agent administered intravenously is given to the trocar (port) placed in the abdomen in the form of aerosol and the aerosols are taken out from the second port when the process is completed by means of a special absorbent system. The application of chemotherapeutic drugs into the abdomen in the form of pressurized aerosols ensures that the drugs are distributed homogeneously in the abdomen, pass into cancer cells more easily, and the plasma concentration of the drugs remains low. Thus, it also reduces the side effects of the drugs. Another advantage of PIPAC is that the procedure takes a short time (between 30 and 60 minutes) and is repeatable (can be done with 6-8 weeks intervals).
