The Hair Transplantation Procedure
Our physician makes a general assessment of your hair including details such as the density of your hair, nature of your hair, hair transfer and transplantation areas, and front lines. All these subjects are planned with our surgeon in close interaction with you.
- Local Anesthesia: There is no need to use general anesthesia for a hair transplant. The procedure only involves mild intervention on the skin and can be managed solely with local anesthetics.
- Channel Opening: Once the local anesthesia takes effect, the channel opening stage starts. Our surgeon completes the channel opening with necessary tools as planned before your transplantation.
- Transplantation: Grafting of follicular units is completed with a micro motor. Grafts are collected individually and implanted by the hair transplantation specialist to the transplantation area individually. This area is determined by our surgeon during channel opening.
- End of Operation: Operation takes 6-8 hours in one or more sessions decided by the surgeon, and you will have a bandage after the transplantation. Our medical team will inform you about the instructions to follow after the transplantation in order to make you comfortable during the follow-up period which takes around 2 days.
- Recovery: You will be prescribed drugs that you are expected to use for a short period of time in order to ensure your comfort during follow-up. On the next day after the operation, our surgeon will check your hair. On the second day of the operation, our team will wash your hair and you will get final instructions from our surgeon.
- Return to Normal Life: There will be a scabby layer on your scalp for the first 10 days following the operation. On the 10th day, that layer will be gone. During this time, you can go back to your normal routine and work; but you will be advised to wear a hat.
- Result: Your hair will start to grow within 2 to 3 months after the hair transplantation. Final result will be observed after 6 months to 1 year. During this time, our patient coordinators will be in contact with you to evaluate your hair’s progress.

The major difference between these methods is the way in which the grafts are removed. With the FUE method, the grafts are removed one by one from the donor area. With the FUT procedure, a piece of skin is removed from the donor area. Under microscope the grafts are then prepared in hair groups of one to four hair roots.
In Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) technique, linear donor scar does not occur, and it has a faster healing period. When the patient’s primary goal is to be able to wear their hair shortly after or return quickly to strenuous activity, FUE is ideal. FUE is also indicated when there is an increased risk of a widened scar or when scalp laxity (looseness) does not permit a strip excision. The patient may sometimes choose FUE simply to avoid the stigma of a linear donor scar.
Fast healing: FUE wounds heal much faster than FUT. It’s because of the small size of wounds. All the daily routine can be resumed in one week’s time including exercising.
Selective harvest: Since the grafts in FUE can be chosen & picked, it provides an option to get the best grafts, the grafts which have more than one follicle in them. It really helps in dense packing especially behind the hair line area.
Graft placement is easy: FUE grafts are thinner & leaner than FUT, so it is very easy to place them together in a small space. On the other hand, the FUT grafts are thicker & have a good amount of fat tissue in them. So again, very high density can be achieved using FUE grafts.
Small sessions: Since FUE doesn’t include a cut, it goes with small sessions, in case the patient wants to go slow and gradually towards the goal of hair restoration. Very small sessions of even 300-400 grafts can be done to reduce the social downtime & to avoid sudden change.
